Dubai  -  At the gala for the the MEA Risk and Insurance Excellence Awards run by StrategicRISK and Global Reinsurance, Alexander Larsen won the Risk Manager of the Year Award for Middle East and Africa for his achievements in risk management in an extremely volatile country. Mr. Larsen is responsible for risk and controls at Lukoil's West Qurna Project in Iraq.

The judges praised Mr. Larsen for “successfully implementing risk management processes in a very challenging environment in Iraq and overcoming a number of barriers which would have deterred many others”.

They added: “The result of his work and dedication is clearly demonstrated by the fact that there is now a risk management culture and understanding of risk within all levels of his organisation.”

The effectiveness of the risk processes at Larsen’s company Lukoil was further demonstrated when it also won the MEA Risk Communication Strategy of the Year Award for bringing together “the whole spectrum of risk processes across the organisation - from the implementation of a global risk database to the quantification and analysis of individual risks”.
