London  –  VIA Rail Canada Inc. won the prestigious Delivering Value Through Risk Management award when the Institute of Risk Management unveiled its 2016 IRM Global Risk Award winners during a ceremony in London, United Kingdom, on April 15, 2016.

As Canada's national rail passenger service, VIA Rail Canada (viarail.ca) and its 2,500 employees are mandated to provide safe, efficient and economical passenger transportation service, in both official languages of Canada. VIA Rail operates intercity, regional and transcontinental trains linking 450 communities across the country, and safely transports nearly four million passengers annually. In 2015, VIA Rail Canada’ Enterprise Risk Management program earned the corporation a prestigious ERM Award of Distinction from the USA’s Risk Management Society (RIMS) in Chicago, a Railway Association of Canada award, and a nomination at the IRM Global Risk Awards in London, UK. The company has earned seven Safety Awards by the Railway Association of Canada over the last nine years, and was the recipient of the 2013 Agent's Choice Award voted by Canadian travel agents and presented by Baxter Travel Media. Since 2007, the Government of Canada has invested almost a billion dollars in VIA Rail.
